Our Aim:
The Cambourne Cricket Club's mission is to promote participation in both recreational and competitive cricket among Junior players of all skill levels. Our coaching approach focuses on nurturing each player's development to help them reach their fullest potential.
We recognize that children often like to challenge themselves and may wish to play for an older/adult age group; we have always encourage this. However, if coaches believes that participation at this level could be detrimental or hinder the growth and needs of children in a particular age group, such participation will not be permitted.
We also must be mindful of the amount of cricket a child participates in, as we are required to adhere to the stringent ECB guidelines that regulate junior cricket.
We recognize that children often wish to participate in every available game, and we share this enthusiasm; however, if such participation contradicts the established playing guidelines, we will have to restrict the child's involvement. Additionally, it is important to consider the level of match exposure each child receives, ensuring that all members have equal opportunities to participate.
It is essential for parents of Club members to comprehend and endorse the selection policy in place. The final decision regarding team selection for each age group rests with the respective team manager and coaches, although certain common elements will typically be included in the team selection policy:-
Motivation, Commitment and Attitude
Players who demonstrate strong effort during training and competitions set a positive standard for their teammates. Their level of commitment can also influence decisions regarding match selection.
Behaviour
Being chosen to represent the Club is a privilege that must be earned, not an entitlement. Unacceptable conduct by players will not be tolerated, and the team manager or coaches have the authority to impose sanctions through team selection if deemed necessary.
Ability
Cricket is a highly competitive sport, and the Club is committed to nurturing both talented players and those who require further development. To achieve this, certain age groups may have squads organized by skill level, ensuring that coaching is tailored to the players' abilities. Team selection will primarily consider ability, particularly for older junior players, but it will seldom rely solely on this criterion. Factors such as the strength of the opposing team may also influence selection, as it is not beneficial for the Club to experience mismatches, prompting coaches to make adjustments as necessary.
Age
Children are typically eligible for selection in their designated age group teams. However, in accordance with league regulations, younger players may be considered for regular selection in a higher age group team, provided they have the consent of their parents and the approval of the team manager or coaches. Generally, other children will not participate in a higher age group if there are available players within that group who are willing to play in a scheduled match.
Attendance and Availability
Players are required to participate in both training sessions and matches. Those who consistently attend training and are frequently available for games will generally be prioritized over those who are less committed. The degree to which attendance and availability influence selection is determined by the managers and coaches.
If you have any inquiries regarding the policy, please consult the relevant age group manager or the Junior Academy Coordinator.
