On the gloomy day of April 23, 2023, a preseason-friendly cricket match was played between Cambourne 4s and Eaton Socon at Lower Cambourne Cricket Ground. The match was played despite the rain forecast and the softer pitch conditions than desired.
Eaton Socon won the toss and decided to bat first. Jonathan and Abdul opened the bowling for Cambourne 4s. Abdul started off well, taking two quick wickets. However, Karthick from Eaton Socon steadied the innings and helped his team recover from the early jolts. Amjad got him out lbw, but the young players from Eaton Socon played with outstanding temperament and scored 100 runs in 35 overs for 9 wickets. Nawfal and Martin took two wickets each, while Jonathan, Amjad, and Ashish got one each. Ali also bowled really well.
In response, Cambourne 4s started off with Graham and Prabhu opening the innings. Graham scored 17, and Prabhu scored 16, with the latter hitting a six in the longest part of the ground. However, it was Alwyn who showcased his batting skills, hitting some beautiful shots and scoring runs with ease. Liam and Ali also showed their ability to bat under pressure, scoring 13 runs each. In the end, Cambourne 4s reached the target in just 25.3 overs.
Despite the gloomy weather and softer pitch conditions, it was an exciting match between two competitive teams. The young players from Eaton Socon played with great maturity, while Cambourne 4s showed their experience and ability to handle pressure situations. The match was an excellent opportunity for both teams to prepare for the upcoming season and get into the groove.
